NORDIC SHAWL AND DOG CLAWS

I have deliberated over whether to crochet this shawl for some time.  I just love Annette's colour pallete and her creations, but after crocheting my first shawl, twice, one for me, one for my sister, I felt a bit done with it.  Then I found this page on Annette's site and was totally sold...apart from the fact that I now couldn't make up my mind which colours to choose.  I looked through my stash and found I had rather a lot of this.

I bought this Stylecraft Special DK in Mocha to make a crochet bag for my Step Mum. who had a few small projects on the go, but no bag to put them in when on the move.

It was the very first thing I made and gifted and was I a happy bunny when my Step Mum said she was over the moon with it.

I decided to make my Nordic Shaw with this yarn as the main colour, but then kept changing my mind.... curse that Nordic Shawl parade, too many choices!

I really love this grey version, the mustard colour is a lovely punch of colour, don't you think?

Mr. likes both, but thinks the mocha would probably wear better, especially with our Elsie and her penchant for stealing anything of mine that's cuddly.

Just can't help thinking the colour is a bit meh!  I'll carry on, as the colourful band will hopefully make all the difference and I can make this my autumn shawl and do the grey for the summer months.  A girl can't have too many shawls, now can she?

Other things, I popped down to  Bridport to help Aunty A take her two elderly greyhounds to the beauty parlour for a bath, brush up and pedicure.

We picked them up two hours later, all spruced and smelling sweet, but they did'nt seem too impressed. It's the first time they've been to the parlour, as A usually does it herself.  However, she's damaged the cartilage in her knee, so that's out of the question until she's had her op next week.

The lady who took care of them did a wonderful job, but couldn't quite finish of their claws on her own, so I stepped in to hold them while she got to work.  Oh, poor things, they really, really don't like their paws being touched, but we got there in the end, with this poor woman lying on her stomach, on the floor, to complete the task.  She only charged £20.00 per dog, which I thought was amazing value, especially as she also had to wrestle two large, uncooperative dogs into the bath. The poor woman was  exhausted by the time we left, but said she looked forward to seeing them again...obviously a sucker for punishment!

Oh, and I visited Bridport's wonderful hardware shop.  I just love hardware shops, I know, I'm strange, but they are such treasure troves,  I could spend hours in them.  I found these lovely lids which were such a bargain, I wish I'd bought more. Aren't they cute (see I even get excited by lids!).

I also bought some ingredients to make my own liquid laundry/general purpose house cleaner, but more on that another time, I have to root through my collection of jars, those lids need a home!

SPRING HAS SPRUNG! Windows and doors have been flung open in the last few days,  to let in the unusually warm air.  I'm breaking out my summer clothing already!  Can't last Mr says, as there is a cold snap coming.... what a happy little soul! We've  moved the bench to the top of the garden again, as the lengthening days mean the sun remains there the longest.  It was still light at 6.00pm yesterday and we made the most of it sitting watching the birds on the feeder,  robins,  great, tufted, blue and long tailed tits, sparrows, when suddenly a sparrow hawk swooped straight across the garden and sadly that was the last of the bird activity, as they all had the sense to stay hidden.  Last year a sparrow hawk did this, again right in front of us, but it took a bird, which although is only nature at its rawest,  was still quite shocking. It's much the same when we walk the dogs, with skylarks swooping about in pairs, performing what I imagine is their courting r
IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR Trying to summon up the Christmas spirit here.  I normally love this time of year, but I just can't muster any enthusiasm at the moment. I broke out the Christmas mugs and indulged in a frothy, cream topped latte...nothing. Mr put up some decorations and lit our little 'ting, ting', as I call it, to try and trigger my Christmas spirit. He put up one of the indoor Christmas trees, which I decorated, whilst sipping a snowball, which did raise the spirits somewhat. I just feel like my brain is in a fug and have for a couple of weeks now.  I even struggled when I met up with my girlfriends a couple of days ago last week, finding it hard to contribute to the conversation.  I'm putting it down to the time of year, but I've also not been looking after myself properly, I know that.  Back to the healthy, more probiotic diet I think, just till Christmas proper arrives and I have plenty of it in the house.  When I was eating p
TULIPS,  SOURDOUGH,  MANDALAS...OH, AND SNOW! I cannot believe we are already almost halfway through February.....where did January go for goodness sake? I've been treating myself to tulips, for which I'm a bit of a sucker, with this delicious bunch reminding me of rhubarb and custard sweets f or some reason. My affection for tulips at this time of year stems from the fact that they don't elicit itchy watery eyes and snotty, sniffly noses, symptoms that daffodils do.  Having said that, I have some Tete a Tete in the kitchen that will be coming into flower soon, so better stock up on the tissues. This bunch also called to me.....well, you can't have too many can you? I thought how nice they would look with  some sort of matching doily underneath them and a mandala sprang to mind.  I chose to this pattern one for it's design and colour palette and it proved to be an easy little make. The photo does not show the true colours, quelle suprise, as the ligh
